This edition of the race dubbed '9 days, 4 destination' is the 29th of the famous keelboat passage race along the the Straits of Malacca along the western coast of Malaysia starting from Port Klang, to Pangkor, Penang and ending in Langkawi.
During the harbour race in Penang, the 3rd destination, a crew in a Class 5 keelboat suffered a heart attack. Rescue was difficult as a tropical storm made visibility only about 70 meters . The crew was rushed to hospital in an awaiting ambulance but sadly passed away. At a prizegiving ceremony all the sailors present gave a long standing ovation in a show of support to the keelboat when she was asked to receive her prize for an earlier race .
