Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
In case number 2 (request for redress) the hearing was reopened by the jury, according with RRS 66, after confirming with the RC records that the incident was less than 2 hours from the delivery of the request of redress, so it was in line with 2nd paragraph of RRS 62.2.
During the hearing the jury had doubt if the damage was serious or not. Three Judges went to inspect the damage.
The majority of those judges vote that the damage was serious.
It was a deep hole under the waterline that was penetrating the gelcoat and tears into the underlying fiberglass, the water were coming inside the boat and her performance affected.
It happened that the boat after the damage lost 10 places in a few minutes, but that was not the reason for the redress itself. The main reason was the damage itself, not superficial, affecting performance, diminishing the value of the boat but essentially because that hole in the hull was affecting safety and the boat could sink.
During the hearing we protested de other boat according with RRS 60.3.
Eighteen races sailed with beautiful weather in winds from 5 to 16 knots.
Very well organized and professional race management from the IRO David Campbell-James and his team.
New format of races was applied by the Class Association:
There was an Opening Series and Medal Series, the first top 15 boats from the Opening Series competed in the Medal Series consisting of two rounds of 3 medal races, a Semifinal and a Big Final.
Three red flag penalties on the medal races
Admirable venue and very brilliant organization.
Excellent cooperation between the OA, the RC and the Jury.
