The use of RRS 44.3 scoring penalties on a basis of an elapsed time penalty worked well across fleets of different sizes.
For a serious collision resulting in Part 2 rule breach with serious damage the DSQ penalty applied under RRS64.1 was insufficient. (An additional points penalty for solely RRS14 could be considered)
The event was the IRC European Championships in conjunction with RORC, coupled with the inaugural Beaufort Cup with the Irish Defence Forces and a Try Sailing Challenge (to introduce new participants to sailboat racing in club supplied sports-boats). It demonstrated the power of leveraging a major event (IRC Europeans) with smaller emerging events that are treat equally and encourage participation.
