The Vietnam Sailing Open was the first sailing event organised at the world heritage city of Hoi An , Vietnam by the Vietnam Rowing , Canoeing and Sailing Federation. In this history making event, the RS One Worlds 2017 windsurfing event was held concurrently with the same International Jury Panel.
As Appendix P applied, the Organisers were initially not aware of the need to provide Jury Vessels but did their best to arrange for 2 small powerboats for the Jury eventually.
Credit goes to the Organisers who worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran as smoothly as possible although they have never held a regatta before.
One Optimist sailor was flagged a 3rd time and did not retire immediately resulting in a DNE for all races. In the Rule 69 hearing the sailor was remorseful and due to his age , only a warning and a lecture was given with no further action.
The accommodation and transport was excellent and the support of the local volunteers at the race secretariat was exemplary.
Overall, the event was a tremendous success even though it was a first Regatta for Vietnam.
