On completion of the Round Isle of Wight Race Day 2, the Elapsed time World Speed Record formerly held by ICAP Leopard, was broken by four of the competing Volvo Ocean Race 65 yachts racing in the IRC rated Ocean Racing Yacht Class. The lowest elapsed time and new World Record was established by MAPFRE skippered by Olympic Medalist Iker Martinez from Spain. Their time was 3 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds which was almost 7 minutes faster than the previous record time. It is nteresting to note that the Schooner America took over 8 hours to complete the same course in 1851. - USATR23
