THIS SECTION MAY BE COMPLETED BY ANY JURY MEMBER
Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
There were no protests or requests for redress
Prior to the race it took some time recruiting a jury panel in North America with the right mix of oceanic race judging skills and adequate knowledge of French - the defined language for use in all aspects of the race except for Offshore Special Regulations. Federation France de Voile (FFV) was helpful in locating appropriate judges from France.
The Jury was expected to be able to handle protests and requests for redress whilst yachts were at sea. It would not have been practical, or financially viable to send all judges to the finish in Saint Malo. However a separate stand by panel, including the chairman (GBR) and one french jury member plus additional members in Europe was held in readiness for any post finish protests.
Considerable time was spent prior to the event checking all the various changes to the racing rules required for an oceanic race and ensuring that both Notice of Race and Saiing Instructions had correct references to rule changes.
Prior to the start the jury examined and trialled alternative communication systems for processing "at sea" hearings. The best system seemed to be from `gotomeeting.com`.
The standard of safety management was high and as expected for this type of race.
