We have noticed a new technic in the 470 class that we have never seen before in this class. Crabbing is usually used in Optimist class and ILCA classes. However, during the event we had several cases of crabbing by backing the main sail and sculling by repeated forceful movements of the helm to the windward or to the leeward side of the boat. As a result, the boat started moving slowly sideways to leeward. This happened in the last 1:30 min before the starting signal. Wind 5 – 6 knots, waves – 0.30 m., no current. In wind 7 + knots we haven’t observed crabbing. - BULSK2
