THIS SECTION MAY BE COMPLETED BY ANY JURY MEMBER
Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
One member of the International Jury was not able to attend the event with physical presence due to illness. However, he was available for hearings online, whenever it was needed.
The event tested reaching starts for the Nacra17s and the use of Vakaros System and RaceSense to identify boats over the line at the starting signal.
The reaching starts were made in wind conditions less than 10kn. The wind conditions combined with the fact that it was the first time for the sailors to approach this kind of start, made sure that there were no issues. Probably in the future there might be a need to establish some limitations and some rights.
The Vakaros System is very promising. It worked the way the race committee was expecting and even beyond that. However, there are some small issues still to be resolved, like the fact that the system starts working at the starting signal and not before. Therefore, within the last minute the system cannot identify boats on the course side.
The International Jury decided to give redress to a boat that had installed the device horizontally on the boat. That resulted in the system identifying the boat with the transom in front. Neither the OA nor Vakaros issued any specific instructions on how to install the devices to the competitors. - GRESK14
