THIS SECTION MAY BE COMPLETED BY ANY JURY MEMBER
Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
A potentially controversial race management issue arose on one day, when the wind was strong with thunderstorms. In one race a storm was expected and the RO shortened to one windward leeward leg. However on the downwind leg, after two fast boats had finished, a 45 Knot squall accompanied by a 'white out' ran through the rest of the fleet (TP 52 class boats)who were then sailing downwind. The committee boat and finishing mark dragged. The RO abandoned the race on the grounds of fairness and safety. A RFR was considered by the 'winning' boat who later decided not to proceed. The RO had 'considered the consequences' as required in rule 32.1 before abandoning. A Q&A will be raised to ask for guidance on the proper decision in these circumstances especially as a boat's decision on safety is covered in rule 4
