Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
An interesting discussion arose in determining whether a competitor was entitled to redress.
He was rounding mark 5 of a trapezoid course when another competitor barged in at the mark and his mainsheet caught the protestor across the chest pulling him out of the boat and the boat capsized. During the course of being pulled into the water the protestor lost his prescription sun glasses and his hat. He recovered his hat but the glasses had sunk to the bottom of the water.
The competitor completed that race and the next but sailed poorly due to the limited ability to see the marks.
Was this damage or injury?
A decision was made to allow redress for the following race but not for the following days as he could obtain contact lenses.
A Q&A has been submitted.
The racing was interrupted by the weather but the race committee managed to race 7 of 12 races despite the conditions.
