The last race of the regatta scheduled to start at 1800 hrs was postponed. When the RC began the starting sequence the sun had set and there was no light to see the pin end of the line. The PRO identified three boats as OCS and one of them requested redress. During the hearing, the PRO stated that the pin end of the line was barely visible and that his committee was trying to illuminate it from the signal boat. He also stated that the pin end of the line was not squared to the wind due to a wind shift making the signal boat the windward end of the line. The sailor stated that he didn't think he was over the line because even though he could not see the pin end of the line, he could see the signal boat at a 45 degree angle. All three boats returned to the line to start properly because the RC had hailed them as OCS over the VHF radio. Redress was awarded (70 seconds deducted from their overall time) to all three boats that were identified as OCS even though only one boat had requested redress (RRS 64.2).
Other than that incident, the race was a beautiful 700 nautical mile race to the island of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos and to the islands of Isabela and San Cristobal.
