THIS SECTION MAY BE COMPLETED BY ANY JURY MEMBER
Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
This championship included 11 competitors in the Servo division. The Sailing Instructions modified RRS 61.(a) so that the hail “protest” was not required if it could not be made because of a sailor’s “physical handicap”. There was no change to the required hails of “room to tack” or “you tack” in RRS 20. Hand signals could have been permitted as an alternative. Sailing Instructions also changed RRS 41 to permit assistance for safety, with approval from the race officer or safety officer, such as for reefing and repositioning a sailor who could not do so. Interpretation given by a class executive of the class rules for sitting in the two-person Hansa 2.3 permitted a broad range. Therefore, there were no protests on breaches of sitting positions, although class members had many questions about this interpretation. - CANAB17
