This was the first offshore regatta in India, complying to World Sailing guidelines and OSR for J 80 class. The event was conducted over two races, race 1 from Chennai to Puducherry (India), a total distance of 80 Nm and race 2 was the reverse route.
SI was made in great detail to ensure safety and fair play during the event. Instructions for use of OBM in an emergency situation were spelt out. Trackers were used to track the location of the boats (both GSM and Satellite). Check points were established enroute to monitor progress of the race. Communication was through Motorola VHF sets. SAR cover was provided by the Indian Navy.
The event was an outright success and lays the foundation for larger offshore events in future in India. The organizers went a great length to ensure the regatta is class compliant. - INDSK12
