The ADRIATIC IONIAN MACRO REGION YOUTH GAMES is a new sports event with 12 different sports, including sailing, with competitors representing the nations around the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
The boats used were Tridente 14 (3 crew members) belonging to the Italian Navy Sailing Club and the race format was on water theatre style fleet racing and 14 protests were judged on the water.
Competitor?s age was limited to juniors born in 1998-1999 years and each nation could enter one male and one female crew. Competitors should be members of their national sailing federation and the sailing competition organising authority was Ancona Municipality in collaboration with Italian Navy Sailing club.
Unfortunately only three nations entered their sailors, probably because at this the time of the year most of the MNAs are making their teams selections and at the same time there were a number of important events going on in Europe.
On IJ opinion, the main reason was that all information concerning the event was sent only to a limited number of municipalities (1 per nation) and not to the National Federations who could organise and enter their teams.
Also it would have been better if more known classes like Laser 4.7 and 420 were used.
Race Management team made good effort in order to achieve good races in light wind conditions. Cooperation between IJ and RC was excellent and the support of the Italian Navy Sailing Club, very valuable.
