Comments on rule questions, new interpretations, problems, unpopular Rule 62 (Redress) decisions, summary of the facts, conclusions and decisions of Rule 69 (Allegations of Gross Misconduct) actions, problems with Sailing Instructions or Notice of Race and experience with experimental procedures.
This was a happy friendly event held on Geographe Bay in the south west of Western Australia about 3 hours from Perth. The host club has good facilities with wide grassed areas fronting the white sandy beach. 10 races were planned but just 9 races completed. There were 15 protests 2 of which included requests for redress. There were no rule 2 or 69 protests nor new interpretations. The notice of race and the sailing instructions were conventional and presented no problems.
Complying with the wishes of the Class Association to have just the one fleet of 124 boats racing, the SI's provided for a 3 committee mark boat starting line with the signal boat in the middle of the line. P and U flag starts were employed and there was only 1 black flag start. The U flag proved very successful.
Race management was very good. The wind conditions varied from 4 to
5 knots to 20+ knots and was very shifty. However, the race management was efficient and calm resulting in true courses and square starting lines. Racing on day 4 was abandoned after 1 race due to the strong winds and the confirmed sighting of a 4 meter shark. The local swimming beach was also closed.
