The regatta was the Asian continental qualifier for the Rio Olympic games for classes RS:X, 49ers and Lasers. For some countries it was also the Olympic selection event which put a lot of pressure to sailors to qualify first their country to the Games and then also to compete for their own place in the team.
At the first team leaders meeting the jury paid attention to the importance of the regatta and made it clear that only the fair sailing is accepted and any attempt to the team racing will be handled with the full seriousness and could result a very heavy penalties.
Also we had every morning the coaches meetings and all of them were very co-operative and supportive so at the end we did not have any problem with any country.
On the last day before the Medal Races we made a briefing for sailors, to remind the basic rules and procedures applicable for Medal Race. The briefing was very much appreciated by coaches and sailors.
It was a fair, successful and a great regatta!
It was definitely a challenging event to RC - as the wind came every day after 13-14 and 18 it was already dark, the day became a quite short. The wind was shifty and light, which made the job very hard for race management teams.
Two days we couldn't race as we got a historical weather conditions the Emirates never had - two days thunderstorm with rain and extremely heavy squalls, so the country closed even the schools for a day.
Eventually the normal weather came back and we got the Medal Races for all 6 classes on the last day.
The regatta was run on two course areas - windward-leeward for 49ers and RS:X and trapezoid course for Lasers.
