The use of small, 5.2 m ribs permitted the strategic positioning of the jury boats within the fleet to prevent propulsion that is not permitted.
The Laser class SIs change rules 36 and Appendix P4 to permit the jury to request redress if a rule 42 protest was signaled improperly.
The jury gave redress when a charter boat's hiking strap broke during a race. The reason was that the SIs did not permit the competitor to make an adequate check of the borrowed equipment to detect the default prior to racing.
