7 Substantial hearing with a duration of around 6 hours was very unusual for a major match racing event. The panel members were rotated for different hearings for efficiency with one of the non IJ's on each hearing. A jury member who has sailed the boats extensively was able to provide technical assistance.

When I arrived at the event, which followed the Ficker Cup, there were rumors that a competitor was cheating by pre-bending his rig. As Jury chair I inspected his boat on the way to the course on day one. The spare halyard was clipped at the bottom of the mast and the tail was led around a halyard winch and tied back on itself. We also check a couple of times during racing and the situation was the same. We were satisfied that no pressure was being applied to the halyard. Two protests were lodged against the competitor for this alleged illegal action by different teams. Both were dismissed.
